Welcome Message

It is my pleasure to share with you today details concerning the 11th Annual Brain Injury Awareness Day.

Brain Injury Awareness Day offers  a unique and valuable opportunity for survivors, family members, health care and legal professionals as well as the community to spend a day together to learn, network and refresh their commitment to improve the quality of life of those affected by brain injury.  Through the continued generous support of our sponsors, this conference has been offered at no charge! More than 200 people attend this inspiring event.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:  We are very excited to announce that former Ottawa Senator Jesse Winchester will be our keynote speaker.  Jesse suffered a serious concussion in December 2011 which sidelined him until April 2012.  In the 2014–15 pre-season, Winchester suffered another concussion.  Although initially optimistic on recovery, Winchester's symptoms persisted until he was cleared on March 27, 2015, Winchester suffered a setback after training and was effectively ruled out from the remainder of the season.

In the lead up to the 2015–16 season, Winchester was cleared in full to participate in training camp. However upon resumption of full training, Winchester's concussion symptoms flared up prior to pre-season games and he was again placed on the injury reserve, ruled out indefinitely. By November, Winchester had returned home to continue his recovery effectively marking the end of his professional hockey career.

Brain Injury Awareness Day will be held at the St. Elias Centre, on Ridgewood Avenue on Wednesday June 12, 2019

SPONSORSHIP:  This day would not be possible without the support of sponsors. There are many opportunities and levels at which to be involved.  The attached sponsorship form outlines available opportunities in becoming a sponsor.
